Homeopathy

Homéopathie

If we observe, we can notice that with only the smallest and most simple means, nature’s wisdom produces the greatest actions. Imitating nature this way should be thinking man’s greatest endeavor
Samuel Hahnemann

Every being is unique and as we take into account symptoms, susceptibilities, reactional modes specific to each individual, homeopathy makes it possible to stimulate immune capacities specific to each person, in order to defend oneself in acute situations and to reinforce oneself in order to prevent health problems.

Homeopathy is a precise and delicate therapeutical method. It is advisable to use it in a responsible manner. Consultation then becomes a privileged space to learn to care for oneself with the support of a homeopath.

Homeopathy is also a most efficient therapy when applied to small children and babies.   Using homeopathy to care for little ones means helping them to develop a strong constitution and to avoid long waits whenever it is unnecessary.

Homeopathy allows eveyone to take care of one’s health and to rediscover natural caring gestures for ourselves and for those we love.

I received a homeopath’s diploma from the Institut Supérieur d’Homéopathie in 2003.

What is homeopathy?

Definition

The word homeopathy comes from the Greek word homois (similar) and pathos (suffer). Homeopathy is a therapeutic method based on the prescription of medication according to the pharmacological principle of similarity. These remedies stem from vegetable, mineral or animal substances which are « dynamised » and undergo highly specialised laboratory processes to dilute them and increase their potency. They are used in low, infinitesimal doses.

The similarity principle as a starting point

Hippocrates was the first to formulate the principle of similarity. He established a link between the therapeutic action of a remedy substance and its toxicological power. The principle of similarity consists in giving a sick person a medical substance which is capable of provoking a set of symptoms similar to his illness, when given to a healthy person in a large dose.

Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) a German doctor    laid down the bases for Homeopathy in 1796. At that time, he had already developed double blind methods of analysis and recorded all the symptoms provoked by the intake of the different substances.

Four great principles control the prescription of remedies

  • Similarity : the treatment of a set of symptoms is brought by a substance that provokes similar signs in a healthy person.
  • Dilution : the active principle which is submitted to repeated dilutions.
  • Dynamisation/ Potentiation: molecular agitation gives a remedy its therapeutic potency.
  • Individualisation : each treatment is personnalised for each patient. The research for the « whole » of a patient’s symptoms is at the center of the method.

 Foundations are provided by

  • The theories linked to experiments.
  • Mostly by general observation of physical and chemical effects obtained in a clinical setting.
  • The analysis of homeopathic remedies in nuclear magnetic resonance.

(Theory of high dilutions)

  • Homeopathy now rests confidently on the bases provided by Hahnemann’s legacy enriched by 200 years of practice and medical evolution.

Worlwide use

France ensures 80% of homeopathic medicine market.   According to Wikipedia the use of this medicine is demonstrated in eighty countries mainly in Europe, South America, India, Bengladesh and Pakistan.

150,00 doctors prescribe homeopathy to over 300 million patients around the world.

For example,   according to OMS, Bengladesh had 16,000 certified homeopaths and 8,000 others in 1999. « Homeopathes sans Frontières » a humanitary association is active in taking charge of the sick in poor countries, namely in Africa. The association is also involved in the training of local caregivers.

Veterinary homeopathy

Since 1833, homeopathy has been used to treat domestic and farm animals. Homeopathy aims at caring for everyday pathologies  such as :

  • Dermatosis,
  • Problems related to sexual behavior, growth, birth,
  • Pathologies related to the respiratory, digestive and   locomotor systems.
  • Mammary infections. …     (Wikipedia)

Moreover, it is important to know that very strict norms apply to organic agriculture, prohibiting the use of allopathic medications.   This explains why stockbreeders now use homeopathy with success.
